New conditions around remote access and data storage may hamper 5G trials with Huawei, ZTE: Report

NEW DELHI: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has reportedly hardened its stand on remote access and data storage which could hamper the impending 5G trials, involving Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE, Financial Express reported.

The move comes amid the rising call for data privacy after the Indo-China border stand-off in mid-June.

The IB is reportedly against of data going outside the country during trials and it also wants to prohibit from granting remote access to Chinese telecom gear makers.

If the Government doesn’t alter its stance on the issue, Huawei and ZTE will not be able to participate in the trials, the report added.

Though all foreign telecom gear makers have their manufacturing hubs located abroad but as per experts who spoke to the Financial Express, no vendor would be willing to relocate their hubs in India. This is because trials are conducted with limited handsets and users.
