Netflix is changing its top 10 shows and movies ranking system, here’s how

Netflix is overhauling the way it calculates its top 10 shows and movies. Instead of ranking popular titles by total viewing time, the company said that now it will rank them based on “views”. It defines these “views” as the number of hours viewed divided by the total runtime. “We heard feedback that only providing hours viewed on our Top 10 lists was hard to contextualize, so over the last few months we started to share the views for a good number of our titles (i.e. the number of hours viewed divided by the total run time),” the company said.
