Net Neutrality

A DoT committee on the net-neutrality met on 22.01.2015 and decided to begin public consultations with all the stakeholders after listing out issues involved in the matter (see box-A).

Earlier, the DoT had decided to form its own opinion before it asks for Trai’s recommendations on the issue (see box-B). The DoT felt that the whole gamut of issues involving Over-The-Top (OTT) players may not be under Trai purview and DoT needed to adopt definitive stand on the issues involved. The committee is now examining possible implications of OTT services on telecom eco-system for suggesting remedial measures.
