MTNL & BSNL

Both the telecom services PSUs – MTNL & BSNL – are in severe losses for the last several years and with high debt. The government has been supporting them through loan waivers, taking over liabilities of certain levies, through issuance of sovereign bonds, etc., besides awarding contracts on nomination basis. Both the PSUs have corrupt bosses. MTNL by part-time CMD – NK Yadav and BSNL CMD – Anupam Shrivastava against whom many cases are being investigated by the vigilance wing. But, recently, the telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has approved his confirmation (for further 4 years) beyond one year as CMD on the basis of “deemed vigilance clearance” and fabricated performance figures.
