Mobile retailers demand CBI probe against Amazon in bribery case; want portal to be suspended

NEW DELHI: Indian mobile retailers have demanded a CBI probe against Amazon after it was reported that the US-based e-retailer bribed government officials for their gains and urged that the US-based e-retailer’s portal and other “incidental activities” be suspended immediately.

A news report while citing a whistleblower stated that legal representatives of the company were allegedly bribing government officials following which Amazon has begun an investigation into the bribery allegations and against its legal representatives.

Meanwhile, Amazon India issued a media statement saying that it has “zero-tolerance” for corruption and will take “necessary action.”
