Mobile phone brands, retailers set to reopen stores where allowed

New Delhi: Mobile phone industry including brands and retail partners are set to resume business after the government’s directive to ease restrictions on manufacturing and sale of handsets across the country even as the nationwide lockdown was extended beyond May 3 for two weeks.

The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) however, “expressed concern about non-fulfillment of the emergent consumer demand for mobile phones and mobile devices due to limited operations of the retail and E-Commerce operations in Red Zones.”

The group which represents handset brands like Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Lava, and contract manufacturers like Foxconn and Wistron, added that states need to follow and implement the MHA guidelines in the same spirit.
