Mobile industry increases impact on all SDGs in 2021, but densification of 5G may impact climate: GSMA
NEW DELHI: The mobile industry increased its impact on all sustainable development goals (SDGs) in 2021, with the average impact score across the 17 SDGs reaching 53 (out of 100), up from 49 in 2020, and none in 2015, according to GSMA.
The overall acceleration of impact indicates that the mobile industry is achieving 53% of what it could potentially contribute to the SDGs, the London-based telco group said in its “2022 Mobile Industry Impact Report: Sustainable Development Goals” report.
The mobile industry continues to achieve its highest impact on SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) on account of increased reach of mobile networks and take-up of mobile internet services, the report said.
