Mobile broadband speeds under pressure in April amid high demand
New Delhi: Mobile broadband speeds during April have either fallen or largely remained flat over March implying that telecom networks have not yet adapted to the surge in traffic during the COVID-19 lockdown.
According to data published by the telecom regulatory authority of India, average download speed for Jio (15 mbps) and Vodafone (6.4 mbps) have fallen by 23.4% and 4.4% respectively during April, the month when the entire nation was under lockdown as compared to 10 days of March. For Airtel 4G download speed has remained flat at 6.4 mbps as compared to 6.2 mbps previously. Meanwhile, Idea has seen an increase of 13.7% in download speed to 5.8 mbps in April. Jio still remains the leader in download speeds. Highest 4G download speed of 26.1 mbps was observed on Jio’s network in Madhya Pradesh.
