Several key ministries including finance, corporate affairs and the Niti Aayog have opposed the draft e-commerce rules put out by the ministry of consumer affairs.
The inter-ministerial differences may compel the consumer affairs ministry to reconsider the rules, potentially delaying a decision and continuing the uncertainty for the sector that is estimated to grow to $188 billion by 2025 from $64 billion in 2020, according to a Grant Thornton estimate.
