Microsoft kills its mixed reality ‘dreams’
Microsoft has discontinued its “mixed reality” feature for Windows. The Windows Mixed Reality platform helped some hardware devices and software to access augmented and virtual reality technologies. The tech giant has now updated its list of deprecated Windows features which also shows that Mixed Reality Portal app and Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR app are also being shut down.
In 2017, the company launched the feature in a Windows 10 update to take on virtual reality rivals like HTC and Oculus (now owned by Meta). The mixed reality portal app allowed users to access the technology on their personal computers with the use of compatible VR headsets.
