Man pretending to be Pawar calls Mantralaya, held
MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Thursday arrested three Pune residents, including the person who called up a senior revenue department official at Mantralaya on Wednesday and demanded the transfer of an officer by mimicking NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s voice.
The caller used a spoof app, which showed that the call had come from the NCP leader’s south Mumbai residence Silver Oak. However, the official who received the call got suspicious and alerted the police. A case was registered with Gamdevi police against unknown callers under IPC sections of cheating, forgery, punishment for attempting to commit offence, destruction of evidence as well as under the IT Act.
