Local 5G standard: Bhaskar Ramamurthi says opposition from gear vendors is business driven

NEW DELHI: IIT-Madras Chairman Bhaskar Ramamurthi said that global telecom gear makers’ opposition to the local 5G standard is “business driven” and TSDSI RIT (Radio Interface Technology) “isn’t a fork standard” as is being termed in the market.

“I know they call it a fork, but it’s temporary in the sense that maybe the version of equipment they’re putting out right now doesn’t have this. But there are discussions with all the vendors… the base stations need only software changes. We have not done something that requires massive change. You can’t create folks that way,” Ramamurthi said in an interaction with ET.
