Limited role in pursuing threat actors, says IT ministry on iPhone state-sponsored attack

The ministry of electronics and information technology (Meity) has a limited role in pursuing the threat actors involved in the alleged state-sponsored attack on certain users of Apple’s devices and is unlikely to get involved for now, a senior government official told ET.

“There is limited (intervention) that the IT ministry can do (in this case). Even if someone who has been targeted approaches us with a complaint, we can ask the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) to look into this. But beyond that, those who have been sent the notification by Apple will have to approach the law enforcement agencies,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
