Lava acquires Panama-based B Mobile to enter Latin American market; inks global licensing deal with Motorola
NEW DELHI: IPO-bound handset brand Lava International has acquired Latin American handset brand China Bird Centro America S.A. for $50 million and has signed a global licensing deal with Lenovo-owned Motorola to launch Moto-branded features phones.
The move to acquire an international company and the licensing deal is aimed at establishing a better control on supply chain in terms of pricing, a person familiar with the matter said.
“Lava has to ensure that it has a solid supply chain hence it is doing partnerships which can increase volumes for the company, resulting in better pricing. Lava wants to make both upstream and downstream supply chains and needs deep partnerships,” the person with the direct knowledge told ET.
