Kolkata: 40 arrested in Elliot Road call centre bust

KOLKATA: Cops have busted a fake call centre operating from Elliot Road adjoining Park Street in the wee hours of Monday. The call centre – a highly organized one – used to target Australians using multiple pretexts – offering discounts on OTT platforms, giving tech support or solving issues related to internet speed or software problems.

“Forty people – seven of them women – have been arrested and 30 others – who had joined in the past 10 days – were let off. A key accused was also let off as she is pregnant,” said an officer. Those who have been working for months were picked up since “they would be in a reasonable position to know that fraud was getting committed”.
