Karnataka STPI units report export worth Rs 36,459 cr during lockdown
Bengaluru: The software technology parks of India (STPI) units in Karnataka exported services worth Rs 36,459 crore during the past three months amid the lockdown in the wake of a pandemic.
STPI Bengaluru centre was set up in 1991 and has expanded to four sub-centres in Mysuru, Hubballi, Mangaluru and Manipal.
Exports of technology services from the state have grown from worth Rs 5.6 crore in 1991-92 to Rs 174894 crore in 2018-19. This is roughly 41% of the total current National Exports, said STPI in a press release.
India’s $ 191 billion IT-BPM industry, which comprises nearly 18,000 companies directly employing 4.3 million people, contributes 7.7% of gross domestic product (GDP). The STPI units together have played an important role in Indian IT services industry’s growth over the years.
