J&K told to act against broadcast of ‘anti-India’ content

NEW DELHI: To prevent “anti-India” content from being broadcastNSE 1.10 % in Jammu & Kashmir, the information and broadcasting ministry has issued an order asking administrative officials of the UT to take “strict and prompt action” against operators showing “unauthorised content”.

The order, citing sub rule 6 of cable TV rules, said: “No cable operator or MSO can carry any content of a channel that is not permitted by the ministry”. The I&B ministry has a list of over 500 channels that are approved after a security license from the home ministry, and a broadcast license from the I&B ministry.

The order also said failure to comply with the rules “would invite penal action which would mean withdrawal of broadcasting licenses and confiscation of equipment.”
