JioCinema effect: Disney+ Hotstar loses millions of subscribers in India

Disney+ Hotstar has lost nearly 12.5 million subscribers in the last quarter ending June 2023. The company said the decline is due to lack of cricket on the platform. The entertainment giant, however, added 8,00,000 Disney subscribers internationally.

Why Disney+ hotstar lost subscribers

Kevin Lansberry, interim chief financial officer, said that Disney+ Hotstar subscribers declined this quarter because the company adjusted the product “from one centred around the IPL to one more balanced with other sports and entertainment offerings.”
