Jio vs rest telcos: VMware’s Shekar Ayyar on network virtualisation in India

In an interaction with ET’s Danish Khan, Shekar Ayyar, executive vice president, general manager, Telco and Edge Cloud, VMware said that India is in two camps with Reliance Jio versus the rest telcos in terms of network virtualization. He said that the Internet of Things (IoT) applications and edge computing will prove to be a big opportunity for VMware. Edited excerpts

How do you see IoT as an opportunity?

We also see a lot of telos expanding closer to the edge of the network and so they are going to build a footprint is much more distributed in nature. For IoT applications and using edge computing, it will be a big opportunity
