Jio signs up Nokia and Ericsson for 5G networks

NEW DELHI: Nokia and Ericsson, two of the world’s top telecom infrastructure providers, have bagged lucrative 5G contracts from Reliance Jio as the top telecom company looks at fresh vendors beyond Korean Samsung which had set up its 4G network.

Nokia said it has been selected as a key supplier by Jio for 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment in a multi-year deal. Under the contract, Nokia will supply equipment from its AirScale portfolio, including base stations, high-capacity 5G Massive MIMO antennas, and Remote Radio Heads (RRH) to support different spectrum bands, and self-organizing network software.

“We are confident that our partnership with Nokia will deliver one of the most advanced 5G networks globally,” Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, said.
