Jio PoI issue: DoT to examine past SC, CCI verdicts before imposing Rs 3,050 penalty on telcos

NEW DELHI: The department of telecom (DoT) is taking a careful approach on a decision awarding penalty to Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular worth Rs 3,050 crore, and would examine if any past rulings of the Supreme Court or the Competition Commission of India would have any bearings on it, a senior official told.

“The Supreme Court and Competition Commission of India judgments have to be examined whether it had any bearing on the penalty issue,” the official said, adding that the two departmental committees made conflicting views on the matter.
