Jio buys spectrum for Rs 57, 123 crore; ups spectrum holding by 55%

Reliance Jio (Jio) has acquired spectrum in 22 circles across India in the 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands for Rs 57,123 crore, thereby becoming the largest buyer of airwaves in the just concluded spectrum auction.

The telco on Tuesday said that post the auction it has increased its spectrum capacity by 55% to 1,717 MHz and is the largest holder of spectrum in sub-GHz and 2300 MHz band. Jio ” has successfully acquired the right to use spectrum in all 22 circles across India in the recently concluded spectrum auctions conducted by Department of Telecommunications,’ said the telco in a statement. Compared to Jio, rival Airtel has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum across sub GHz, mid band and 2300 MHz bands for Rs 18,699 crore and Vodafone Idea , the least aggressive player in the 4G auctions has acquired airwaves in 5 circles for Rs 1,993.40 crore.
