It’s game on as Google gears up to take on Microsoft and Sony
Rumours on Google’s gaming console have existed for over a year now but there has been no concrete proof to support it. Now, a patent has been published detailing the search giant’s game controller and by extension, dropped a major hint on Google developing a gaming console that could be a potential Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox One rival.
The patent published by USPTO on January 31 this year, clearly shows a game controller that essentially looks like the DualShock controller with a basic set of four directional and functional buttons on either side, two joysticks, a dedicated microphone button (that might trigger Google Assistant) and three more buttons towards the front-top.
There is no official word from Google on this but the patent abstract does give us some idea about the controller if not anything else. “Implementations are provided that permit a seamless activation of a game or the other application on a host device from a game controller. The game may be launched on the host device in response to an activation signal that is dispatched from the game controller.
