IT ministry to take Rs 10,000 crore plan for supercomputing hubs to Cabinet soon: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will soon approach the Cabinet seeking approval for a Rs 10,000 crore scheme to set up supercomputing and quantum computing hubs in a public-private partnership mode, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state at the ministry, said Tuesday.

“The IT ministry is proposing this and this will include setting up of GPUs (graphics processing units) in PPP mode with data centres in the private space and public data centres under CDAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing),” he told reporters.

Existing supercomputers such as PARAM will also be included in this plan to create and augment the artificial intelligence (AI) computing capacity in the country, he said.
