IT companies’ spendings on data safety up 2.5x

AHMEDABAD: Recently, the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) was in a fix as a ransomware gang, ‘Medusa’, hacked into its data networks and compromised the admin account. The attackers were in possession of several gigabytes of sensitive data belonging to the GMDC’s office in Ahmedabad. The gang demanded $500,000, threatening to make the data public on the dark web, if ransom was not paid.
