iPhone Li-ion battery cells to be made in India by Japan’s TDK: Report

NEW DELHI: Japan’s TDK Corporation will manufacture battery cells in India for iPhones that are being assembled here, Business Standard reported citing sources aware of the development.

As per the report, TDK will supply battery cells to Apple’s Li-ion battery assembler, Sunwoda Electronics, which is already operating in India and at present, imports cells from various global markets.

TDK acquired Li-ion battery and cell manufacturer Hong Kong-based Amperex Technology, and it recently reportedly acquired a 180-acre land near Gurugram, Haryana for Rs 550 crore, to set up a unit to make, amongst others, the cells for Li-ion batteries.
