India’s UPI to now work in one more country
After Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Bhutan and France, Sri Lanka is the new country to adopt India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment service. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe have signed an agreement in this regard. As per the agreement, Sri Lanka will start accepting UPI payments in the country. This agreement was signed during Wickremesinghe’s two-day visit to India.
India’s mobile-based payment system, UPI allows customers to make instant payments at any time of the day. This payment service uses a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) to complete the transactions which can be created by the customer.
