India’s smartphone shipment to decline in Q4 due to supply challenges: IDC

Smartphone shipment in India is expected to see a decline in the December quarter due to supply challenges, resulting in annual shipments below 160 million in 2021, according to research firm IDC.

Smartphone shipment registered a year-on-year decline of 12 per cent in the September 2021 quarter, shipping 48 million units after four consecutive quarters of growth, IDC said.

The first nine months of the year (January-September 2021) already shipped 120 million units, with H1 2021 clocking 42 per cent y-o-y growth. Due to supply challenges, Q4 2021 is expected to see a decline, resulting in annual shipments below 160 million in 2021,” IDC India Research Director (Client Devices and IPDS) Navkendar Singh said.
