India’s ranking in download speed improves by 72 spots as Jio, Airtel ramp up 5G rollouts: Ookla

NEW DELHI: India’s global ranking in median download speeds has improved by 72 places – from 119th in September 2022 to 47th in August 20223 – on the back of fifth-generation or 5G network rollouts by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, according to the latest research released by Ookla.

Ookla’s data shows that median download speeds across India increased by 259% since before 5G launched, jumping from 13.87Mbps in September 2022 to a median download speed of 50.21Mbps in August 2023.
