India’s Lava readies 5G strategy to take on Chinese rivals

NEW DELHI: Home-grown handset maker Lava International is preparing for a bigger play in the 5G ecosystem by launching sub-Rs 10,000 5G smartphones to quickly grow its market share and to better compete with Chinese rivals.

The company said that with chipset shortage easing off, it would be able to fully utilise the production-linked incentive scheme for handset manufacturing, and its focus on local designing capabilities will unlock the next phase of growth.

“Fundamentally, we have prepared ourselves for 5G products…we will launch the best 5G phones with very good quality which we will price in less than Rs 10,000 segment. We will also have 5G phones available in the Rs 15,000-25,000 price segment,” Hari Om Rai, chairman and managing director at Lava told ET in an interview.
