Indian smartphone market down 5% in Q2 on stifled demand: Canalys
New Delhi: Smartphone shipments in India dropped another 5% in Q2 2022, from the previous quarter, as brands struggled to shift units as consumer demand dwindled, according to an industry report. This marks a decline for three quarters in a row, as macroeconomic headwinds stifle demand.
“Vendor activity remained muted in Q2, due to falling demand and government scrutiny of Chinese manufacturers,” said Sanyam Chaurasia, analyst at Canalys, adding that Chinese vendors shipped 76% of all smartphones in Q2 2022. “Ballooning inflation has hit consumers’ disposable income and vendors are struggling to cover their operating costs.”
