Indian netizens flock to Threads app

CHENNAI: India’s netizens flocked to add yet another social network on their smartphones as tech giant Meta launched Threads -a direct rival to microblogging site Twitter- on Thursday.

The new Threads app, which allows users to share text updates, post links, reply or report messages and join public conversations, reached 10 million total users within seven hours of launch, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg said on Thursday.

While the company does not provide a breakdown of users by country, the app also created heightened buzz in the country with one of the largest base of smartphone users.
