India will have 31 million 5G subscriptions by 2022 end, 690 million by 2028: Report

With telecom operators expanding 5G services and deploying the next-generation connectivity in more regions, a report has claimed that by the end of this year, India will have around 31 million 5G subscriptions by the end of 2022. Furthermore, these subscriptions are said to reach 690 million by the end of 2028.

According to the November Ericsson Mobility Report 2022, 5G will represent around 53% of mobile subscriptions in the region at the end of 2028. The report also notes that India is expected to see a peak in 4G subscriptions (around 930 million) in 2024. The subscriptions are forecast to decline to an estimated 570 million by the year 2028.

Furthermore, smartphone subscriptions in India as a percentage of total mobile subscriptions are expected to grow from 77% in 2022 to 94% in 2028, the report notes.
