India to see rapid uptake of 5G services: Opensignal

NEW DELHI: India could see a relatively rapid uptake of 5G services as compared to other markets, once 5G is commercially launched, according to Opensignal.

Telecom operators could also quickly gain subscribers by prioritizing the roll out of next-generation services in cities/circles with a higher proportion of users that own a 5G-capable smartphone.

India already has a large addressable market for 5G as about 9.7% of smartphones that are in use here are 5G-capable which could drive an explosive uptake in 5G services as these users do not need to buy a new smartphone, the provider of mobile analytics said in a report as telcos race to cover to the entire country with 5G by 2023.
