India to nudge Chinese smartphone cos to leave under-Rs 12,000 segment
New Delhi: India is working on a strategy to nudge Chinese smartphone players to steer clear of the under-Rs12,000 market segment, as part of a bid to revive the fortunes of local companies such as Lava and Micromax that have been pushed to the fringes in the last seven years, government and industry officials said.
The government is also likely to push these firms to involve Indians in the distribution supply chain business, start exporting made-in-India devices and contribute to the Indian exchequer in a meaningful way, they said.
