India smartphone market declines 1.7% on-year in 2020; Q4 shipments up 21%, says IDC
NEW DELHI: After several years of growth, the India smartphone market declined 1.7% on-year to ship 150 million units in 2020, according to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
Due to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic and resulting stay-at-home mandates, remote work, manufacturing shutdowns, led to a sluggish 1H20, declining 20% on-year.
However, due to an increase in devices per household owing to work from home, remote working and learning, and entertainment needs of consumers, the smartphone market recovered in 2H20 with a 19% on-year growth.
