India can become a global OpenRAN leader due to its scale: Facebook

NEW DELHI: Facebook said that India can offer the much-needed scale to the OpenRAN technology due to the size of the market resulting in lower costs to telecom operators. It said that OpenRAN and disaggregating the “telecom” stack will open up innovation in India and support the make in India program not just for hardware manufacturing but for application and software development.

“So, I’m very optimistic about this. India because of the scale and the size of the market, it can lead to scale and it can lower the costs and become a global leader,” said Robert Pepper, director of public policy at Facebook. He was speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2020 virtual event.
