India bans 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, Helo, WeChat, Weibo & Shareit
NEW DELHI: The Indian government Monday banned as many as 59 China-origin mobile apps that include popular video-sharing TikTok and Helo apps, in addition to WeChat, Shareit, Likee, WeSync, Weibo, Vmate and Mi Community mobile apps.
The move has come following the growing public fury against Chinese products and mobile apps which have become popular in India, after a recent deadly skirmish between Indian troops and the Chinese People Liberation Army in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and others wounded.
Upon receiving of recent credible inputs that such apps pose threat to sovereignty and integrity of India, the government of India has decided to disallow the usage of certain apps, used in both mobile and non-mobile Internet-enabled devices, a government statement read.
