India awards Kochi-Lakshadweep submarine fibre cable project to NEC amid accusations from domestic vendors: Report

Amid accusations of foul play by domestic telecom equipment makers, the Central government has awarded the Rs 1,072-crore Kochi-Lakshadweep (KLI) submarine fibre cable project to Japanese conglomerate NEC’s Indian subsidiary, BusinessLine reported Tuesday, citing a senior government official aware of the matter.

“The bidding process has concluded. NEC was the only bidder and will now be awarded the project. All approvals are in place. It is just a matter of time before it is made public…,” the official informed the publication, adding that the project was approved by the Digital Communications Commission at its last meeting.
