Increased fiberisation key to managing bandwidth demand: Trai’s Gupta

NEW DELHI: Increased fiberisation can manage the growing bandwidth demand in the country, and the regulator is looking at multiple options such as Wi-Fi roll-outs to increase broadband penetration in the country.

“Bandwidth utilisation is going to increase and that can be managed by having more fiberisation,” Sunil K Gupta, Secretary, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) sad, and added that the sector watchdog is working on options like facilitating the provision of more Wi-Fi hotspots and cable operators to provide more broadband services.

Gupta was speaking at a digital roundtable together with Rajan S Mathews, Director General, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), P. Balaji, Chief Regulatory & Corporate Affairs Officer at Vodafone Idea and Purushothaman KG, Partner & Telecom Sector Lead at KPMG.
