Incentivise electronic product design to make India self-reliant, says IESA’s Satya Gupta

Incentivising electronic product design and research will go a long way in making the country more self-reliant, said Satya Gupta, chairman of India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

For this, the government could set aside 15-20% of the funds currently being allocated for incentivising largescale electronics manufacturing in the country, said Gupta, who took over as chairman of IESA in April this year.

“Manufacturing for global companies is great, but to be self-reliant, we also need incentives to encourage indigenous design,” Gupta told ET.
