In 1st cell tower data scan, cops block 2.6k SIMs, accounts linked to ‘new Jamtara’

GURGAON: Tech tracking of cybercrime by the police is typically reactive — a complaint is filed, a phone number is put under surveillance, and the digital pathway to the offender is gradually pieced together.

But a proactive step — tried for the first time here — has led to nearly 3,000 SIM cards and bank accounts being blocked in one fell swoop. Over the month of November, police scanned data dumps of mobile towers in Nuh — specially areas that have been the epicentre of cybercrime — to identify suspicious activity.
