Imports under amended rules against Atmanirbhar Bharat: Domestic telecom companies

NEW DELHI: The Indian telecom industry said that the Centre’s recent amendment in the Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) 2017 policy to allow 100% imports from foreign countries including China, is a retrogressive step, and against the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), and should be rolled back.

In a letter to Communications minister Ashwini Vaishnaw dated September 3, 2021, the Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (Tema) said that the policy is completely against domestic Industry, anti AtmaNirbhar Bharat and against the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
