Imports of 230 electronics products, mostly China made, delayed pending quality clearances
New Delhi: Imports of close to 230 models of mobile phones, laptops, notebooks, tablets, smartwatches and earphones from the likes of Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, LG, Oppo, Tecno, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, Toshiba and HP – all mainly made in China – have been delayed, pending approval from India’s quality control body for more than 20 days.
According to data from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), some of the applications for import of these models being manufactured in China are pending even from September. As per industry estimates, this could be delaying import of over 500 million units of these devices in the high sell-in festive season.
