Illegal services by IP-I

Many IP-I category registrants are providing many services which are prohibited to them. The DoT at its website has clearly distinguished the Categories of Infrastructure Providers being Category – I (IP-I) and Category – II (IP-II), the former being a mere registration, granted to all those that have Rs 5,000, is perpetual in nature and fulfill the least required criteria while the latter has a Bank Guarantee of Rs 100 crore, restrictions on foreign equity holding and a license with a validity of 20 years. While both were in effective law as of August 13, 2000 and IP-II License Issuance was discontinued as of December 14, 2005

The IP-I Registration permits the holder to provide assets such as Dark Fiber, Right of Way, Duct Space and Tower (physical pole or metal tower) to telecom licensees. Active components such as RF Combiners, Antenna, Feeder Cables and Radio Access Network Elements are Active Components which an IP-1 Registration Holder is neither permitted to import the same nor permitted to own or deploy the same
