IISc startup deploys India’s first desi tech for rural 4G & 5G services under BharatNet

BENGALURU: Astrome, a Bengaluru startup incubated at the Indian Institute of Science’s (IISc) Society of Innovation and Development (SID) here, has completed its first successful deployment of the indigenously developed product GigaMesh in rural Karnataka to facilitate 4G and 5G connectivity.

The deployment was done from Sompura gram panchayat (GP) to Nidavanda village in the Bengaluru Rural district.

“GigaMesh is an E-band radio, with multiple-point-to-point (Multi-P2P) communication, making it the most effective way to distribute fibre capacity, wirelessly. In terms of applicability, a single GigaMesh at a GP can connect to multiple surrounding villages, thus providing a significant cost advantage,” Astrome said in a statement.
