Huawei scored an own goal with this Twitter post
The social media executives at Huawei might have a bad day after what was posted on the microblogging website, Twitter last week from the company’s main handle. The @Huawei account on August 2, posted a poll asking ‘Who do you think owns Huawei? #WhoRunsHuawei’ and gave users four options to choose from, including Government, Financial Institutions, Consortiums and Employees. While the questions and the options were already a dicey one, what was more damaging was the option that majority of the people voted for.
Out of 56,790 votes (at the time of writing), 42% of people voted for ‘Government’, something Huawei should’ve seen coming and won’t like now knowing. This comes a few weeks after the entire US-China trade ban fiasco wherein Huawei was one of the most affected companies. The handset maker was banned from using Google’s Android in its devices, Intel chips, Microsoft’s Windows OS and other US services. As a result, the company is now aggressively working on its own Android alternative even though the ban has been lifted for now.
