How this US state is using AI to detect wildfires early
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) has partnered with the University of California San Diego to create Alert California AI program. The program uses AI to detect wildfires by identifying abnormalities in feeds from 1,032 360-degree rotating cameras. It then notifies emergency services and other authorities to check if a potential blaze warrants a response.
The UCSD engineers used AI from DigitalPath to develop the system. Cal Fire invested over $20 million in the program and promised an additional $3,516,000 soon.
