How MapmyIndia is trying to take on Google Maps

Google Maps has become so essential to our lives that we’ve all felt the icy pang of panic whenever we’ve lost our mobile signal in an unfamiliar place, or even, for that matter, a familiar place. It has little competition, but in many countries, there are some who are building differentiated products that hope to challenge Google Maps. In India, the foremost is Rakesh and Rashmi Verma’s MapmyIndia.

Ask their son Rohan Verma, if his desi David can take on the American Goliath, and he does not hesitate to say: “Absolutely.” He says the company’s Mappls platform is already giving Google a run for their money in the enterprise segment.

“That’s because we have much more advanced APIs (application programming interfaces that allow softwares to talk to each other), much more advanced enterprise digital transformation solutions, more advanced automotive tech.
