How hackers are looking to target Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri

NEW DELHI: Humans are not able to hear ultrasonic frequencies but smartphones are capable of that and hackers are now trying to exploit this functionality. According to a latest research finding, using this ultrasonic wave trick hackers can hack Google Assistant and Siri on your smartphones.
According to research carried out by Washington University, hackers can use the guided ultrasonic waves to fool the voice assistants and make them perform various actions. These actions include taking pictures, making calls, sending text messages and also just the volumes.
The researchers mention in a note, “By leveraging the unique properties of acoustic transmission in solid materials, we design a new attack called SurfingAttack that would enable multiple rounds of interactions between the voice-controlled device and the attacker over a longer distance and without the need to be in line-of-sight.
